FISTULA IN ANAL & ANAL ABSCESS

Anal abscess cavity filled with pus near the anus. Over 50% will have a fistula. Fistula is a track from inside the anal to the outside. It can be simple or complex and at various positions in relationship to the muscles that allow us to control our stool.

SYMPTOMS

  • Seton-insertion of various types of threads in the tract

PILONIDAL SINUS

  • It's not a cyst, it's an infection in the buttock cleft
  • Starts from the injury of hair follicles due to stretching in a deep, airless cleft
  • These follicles don't heal and become holes/pits
  • Shed hair is a secondary invader and enters the holes due to suction in the cleft
  • Plugging of the holes occurs
  • The plugged follicles rupture
  • An abscess develops
  • Sinus may develop as the body tries to expel the infection
